Who it is for

Folio is for anyone writing at length: novels, memoir, nonfiction books, histories and long essays. Vera is for work where every claim has to trace back to a source it can show.

Folio, the writing desk

A long-form environment that progressively understands your manuscript — people, timeline, established facts and open threads — and brings continuity risks to Review without interrupting the writing. New writing is checked against what you established.

Your work has a memory: compare any two states of the manuscript and restore an earlier version without erasing what came after. Foliovera records how text arrived — typed directly, accepted AI proposal, accepted reviewer proposal, or import — as contribution provenance. It is a record of what Foliovera observed, not authorship detection.

Vera, the research desk

An evidence-centered research and writing environment: find, capture, inspect, reason, decide — then write. Discovery is not Evidence: a search result is only a lead. Only acquisition and exact selection turn real source material into usable Evidence. Source, exact source version, exact Evidence fragment, Claim, review, accepted decision.

Imported BibTeX or RIS records are metadata, not Evidence. A whole Vera project can be exported as Vera Portable, a complete offline copy that opens on any computer.

Capable, never in charge

The writer writes. The assistant proposes. Nothing enters the manuscript, the Story record or your set of accepted Claims until you decide. AI can contribute; it cannot disappear into the manuscript.

Shared review

You choose exactly what is shared: up to five items, whole or by passage. In Folio that is chapters, scenes or notes. In Vera it is a section or passage of the Paper, the whole Paper, or a Question with its Claims and Evidence. Reviewers see a frozen copy of those words and nothing beyond it, and the share closes by itself after 1, 3 or 7 days. Reviewers need no Foliovera account; they enter with a one-time code sent to their email. They comment and propose replacement wording, and nothing changes until you decide. An accepted rewrite is written as a new revision, and only if the reviewed words are still exactly there.

Access

Foliovera will be a web app that runs in your browser on a laptop or a tablet, with nothing to install. A free one-week trial is planned. Pricing has not been decided yet.
